Mangaluru: A woman has reported theft of gold jewellery and cash from her bag. The incident came to light after she alighted from a KSRTC bus plying between Beltangady and BC Road on Saturday.According to the complaint filed at Bantwal town police station, the complainant, Christin Vegas, 63, from Barimaru village in Bantwal taluk, attended a mehendi function of a relative in Ujire on April 24. She carried gold ornaments, cash of around Rs 3,500, an ATM card and a voter ID card in a small purse, which was kept inside a larger black handbag. At around 5pm, while returning home from her sister’s house, she and her husband boarded a KSRTC bus at Beltangady travelling from Dharmasthala to Mangaluru. The complainant was seated behind the driver and kept the purse safely in her bag. However, upon alighting at BC Road around 5.50 pm, she found that the small purse containing the valuables missing. The stolen items include a gold chain weighing about 5.5 sovereigns and a gold ring weighing 4 grams, together weighing approximately 48 grams, with an estimated value of Rs 6.2 lakh, along with cash and documents. Police suspect that unidentified thieves stole the purse from her bag during the journey between 5pm and 5.50pm. A case has been registered at Bantwal town police station under Section 303(2) of the BNS.
