Panaji: State govt is in the process of appointing a consultant for the common campus planned at Goa University, which is being developed for six govt colleges to shift there.Recently, the university’s executive council approved the transfer of 1.3 lakh sqm of land on its campus at Taleigao to the directorate of higher education for the shifting of these colleges. As the existing buildings of the Goa College of Pharmacy, Goa College of Fine Art, Goa College of Architecture, Goa College of Home Science, and Goa College of Music (all in Panaji), and Goa College of Education (in Porvorim) have aged, govt has planned a common complex for them on vacant land at the university campus.“The survey and physical inspection of the land allotted for the common campus at Goa University has been completed. The process of appointment of a consultant for the project is presently in progress. The detailed infrastructure requirements collected from the respective colleges have been compiled and forwarded to Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) for necessary planning and action,” said an official. The planning and assessment of the common facilities for the common campus are presently being worked out, he said. Officials said the additional land would be required and identified soon for the common campus project. In the meantime, the first phase is being planned in the available land.“Goa College of Pharmacy, Goa College of Arts, and Goa College of Music have been functioning from their existing premises, which are old buildings. Goa College of Architecture functions from two separate locations. All required repair works are regularly carried out for now. Scope for further expansion of these buildings is limited in the existing premises and therefore, it is desirable to shift these institutions to the proposed common campus,” said an official .
