Panaji: Goa University received Rs 6-crore allocation from state govt for developing its online programme infrastructure. The objective is to make selected programmes and courses available not only to students in Goa but also to learners elsewhere.
The proposed system allows learners to select individual courses or credits and build them towards certificates or other qualifications. It is expected to begin from the 2027-28 academic year. “Rather than limiting students to a fixed number of conventional degree courses, the proposed online model is expected to provide flexibility,” said vice-chancellor Harilal Menon.
According to the system, students can choose individual papers or a combination of courses depending on their academic interests and requirements. A student accumulating a specified number of credits could receive a certificate or other academic recognition. Menon said that students could opt for individual or multiple papers.
The number of courses available would depend on the offerings developed by individual departments or schools within the university, with different schools expected to determine the programmes and courses they can offer online.
