Panaji: Goa has crossed the 60-inch mark in cumulative monsoon rainfall this season, recording an average of 1,516.6mm between June 1 and Aug 7. Despite the milestone, the state continues to face a 30.4% rainfall deficit, having received 1,516.6mm against the normal 2,179.4mm, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD) data.Of the IMD’s 14 principal rain gauge stations, three have already crossed the 2,000mm mark. Valpoi is the wettest location so far with 2,092.1mm of rainfall, followed by Dharbandora (2,072.5mm) and Sanguem (2,066.6mm).Other high-rainfall stations include Quepem (1,891.1mm), Canacona (1,718.6mm) and Ponda (1,617.4mm). Panaji has recorded the lowest seasonal rainfall at 981.2mm.The IMD classified rainfall across Goa as ‘widespread’, indicating that most parts of the state received rain during the observation period, while describing overall monsoon activity as normal.The department has forecast moderate rainfall across Goa from Aug 8 to 13 under generally cloudy skies. “Moderate rainfall is likely during evening or night hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31°C and 25°C respectively,” the IMD said.
