TNNMapusa: Nilesh Rane, MLA of Kudal, Maharashtra, said the operational and financial problems affecting sand and gravel truckers operating between Goa and Sindhudurg will be resolved within eight days. The assurance followed a coordination meeting chaired by Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar at his Dhargal residence on Monday, attended by Goa State Truck Association president Milind Shetye and leader Sanju Parab. The delegation submitted a representation citing high transport rates, heavy overheads and multiple cross-border fees in Sindhudurg, which they said have pushed the local transport sector into crisis and put many livelihoods at risk.Rane said a transport framework will be finalised after consultations with chief minister Pramod Sawant and mining professionals from Sindhudurg for a solution that safeguards transporters from both states. The move comes amid earlier tensions in the sector, including objections by the Pernem-Bardez Truck Owners Association to non-Goan truckers. Previously, Sawant had directed the transport department to stop commercial registrations supported by leave-and-licence rental agreements amid demands to scrap the “agreement vehicle registration” system.Arlekar said the new engagement with Rane aims to address unresolved cross-border transit issues and ensure smoother inter-state transport operations.
