Panaji: State govt has decided to start all types of poultry and poultry products business in India and abroad, and formed the Goa State Poultry Development Corporation Ltd to oversee the businesses. Govt will do poultry farming, rearing, setting up breeders, hatcheries on purchased or leased land.The corporation will work to organise the poultry sector by framing policy and putting regulations in place.Animal husbandry and veterinary services director Nitin Naik, who has been appointed as a director of the corporation, said the body will undertake the promotion, production, procurement and marketing of poultry and poultry products in India and overseas.The corporation will engage in poultry farming, set up breeder units and hatcheries on purchased or leased land, and manufacture, procure and market feed additives, medicines and other raw materials through individual, contract and community-driven initiatives.The corporation will also be involved in the procurement, distribution and marketing of poultry products, including live birds, dressed and processed chicken, eggs and ready-to-eat items, through a network of registered traders, distributors and corporation-approved outlets.“The corporation will streamline and reorganise Goa’s poultry sector through policy formulation, licensing and registration mechanisms, enforcement of biosecurity measures, market research initiatives and public awareness programmes,” Naik said.The poultry corporation will implement the Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) Guidelines for Poultry/Birds Facility, 2020, and adopt its directions from time to time and educate the poultry traders to regularise the trade in Goa.State govt has registered the corporation under the provision of the Companies Act, 2013.Chief minister Pramod Sawant had proposed to establish the Goa Poultry Board to increase poultry production, regulate the poultry industry, and provide quality chicken to the public. “My aim is also to establish a state-of-the-art poultry farm,” Sawant had said..
