Ahmedabad: A 29-year-old domestic help from Gandhinagar on Thursday filed a complaint with Mansa police, alleging that a father-son duo cheated him of Rs 16.40 lakh on the pretext of arranging a visa for Australia. According to the complaint, the complainant, currently residing in Mansa and working as a domestic help and daily wager, was approached by alleged visa agents, a father and his son, from Chandkheda in Ahmedabad. The complainant told police that he first learned about the duo’s visa consultancy activities around two years ago and later visited their office in Chandkheda, expressing his interest in migrating to Australia for work. The accused allegedly assured him that they had successfully sent several people abroad and promised to arrange his visa. Nearly a year later, the accused contacted the complainant and asked him to begin the visa process. The complainant visited their residence in Chandkheda with his passport and original documents.The duo allegedly demanded Rs 31.23 lakh as the total package for arranging an Australian visa and initially asked for Rs 25,000 to begin the process. The complainant transferred the amount through UPI. A month later, the accused allegedly sent him a copy of a tourist visa on his mobile phone, convincing him that the process was underway. They later asked him to transfer Rs 14.15 lakh through RTGS to a bank account and subsequently demanded another Rs 2 lakh in cash for booking flight tickets. However, when the complainant tried to verify the visa and ticket online, he found discrepancies. When he confronted the accused, they allegedly avoided him and later refused to return the money. Mansa police registered a case of cheating and breach of trust and initiated an investigation.
