Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation commissioner has once again pulled up contractors over the slow progress of Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development Urban (CM-GRID) scheme road projects in Indirapuram and Kaushambi. He carried out a surprise inspection of the stretches on Tuesday and directed officials to complete the shifting of construction materials from the already revamped stretches within 15 days.Over 10 km of different road stretches have been taken up under phase 2 of the project in Indirapuram and a total of 7 km of road stretches are being worked on in Kaushambi. In areas where the work has been completed, the roads have either not been levelled properly or construction materials have been left on the road shoulders. During monsoon, these shoulders turned into muddy patches. The slush often took over the roads and reduced the carriageways.In several places, pipes and cables have been left beside the road. Moreover, the increase in dust pollution due to the project has also led to health concerns for those living in the area. The situation is especially dire for those with pre-existing health issues. Frequent coughing and breathing problems have become the norm for many residents.Municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik said, “Directions have also been issued to cover all utility ducts, like electric cables and pipelines, within two months. We have a March 2027 deadline and within that period, the work on broadening roads and beautification, a dedicated cycle track, a pedestrian footpath, solar-powered street lights, bus stops, e-vehicle charging stations, and green areas will be completed.”

For a 4-km stretch between Saheed Capt Manoj Pandey Marg (Kanawani Puliya) and NH-9, from Sucheta Kruplani Road and from Kala Patthar Road to Kaveri Marg, the work progress is just over 3%. For a 1.8-km stretch from Kala Pathhar Road to Saheed Capt Manoj Pandey Marg via Sushila Nayar Marg, physical progress is 10%.There is a 1.1-km road stretch from Sushila Nayar Marg to Kala Pathhar via North India Mall where the work has progressed only 3%. The progress on the 1.8-km stretch from Kala Pathhar Road to Saheed Capt Manoj Pandey Marg via Kasturba is only 2%.In other parts of the city, from Dabur Chowk to Kaushambi Bus Stand via EDM Mall to Chaudhury Charan Singh Road and from Vaishali Sector 4 to Harsh Vardhan Marg via Dharam Marg, road repair work is also being taken up, and the work progress remains less than 4%.In May, TOI reported that the commissioner had pulled up contractors working on the CM-GRID scheme over slow progress on road projects, where only 5% progress had been made. He had told contractors that penalties would be imposed if the work did not pick up pace.
