Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday appealed to teachers to give the Congress govt two years to address their concerns, including the implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC), job security and other demands. He assured them that their issues would be resolved based on financial feasibility.Speaking at a Teachers’ Day programme at Kodangal govt junior college, Revanth said it was not a good sign for the state if teachers were forced to take to the streets. “If your issues are not resolved as expected within two years, teachers could decide how to evaluate the govt in the election exam. But do not resort to protests. Instead, dedicate yourself to educating students, securing their future and making Telangana a role model on the education front over the next two years,” Revanth said. He said he would personally act as their representative in resolving their problems.
‘Doors of govt always open’“The Congress govt implemented one PRC soon after assuming office. Now, teachers are demanding another PRC. Look at what the Congress govt has done for you in the last two years, such as conducting the DSC, giving promotions and transfers, releasing ₹6,000 crore in retirement benefits, in addition to ₹1,000 crore monthly releases. Give two years’ time. It is you who will decide my and our future after two years, as we will face assembly elections in Dec 2028 or March/April 2029,” Revanth said, appealing to teachers and their union leaders not to fall into opposition’s trap.The CM, who also holds the education portfolio, appealed to teachers to stop protesting, saying the govt was ready to resolve their pending issues. “The opposition is trying to blackmail the govt through teachers. The doors of the govt are always open to union leaders for discussions on any issue. Teachers can discuss the proposed reforms with the Keshava Rao-led committee,” he said.He said an education commission had been established to address teachers’ concerns and that Keshava Rao had been appointed as an adviser to assist in resolving issues. The CM said the state govt would introduce a new education policy soon and that teachers could offer suggestions by meeting the committee. Stating that the govt was taking major initiatives to provide quality education, skill development and promote innovation, CM Revanth called upon the entire teaching community to re-dedicate itself to strengthening the education system in accordance with the goals set by the state govt.He stressed the need to strengthen the public education system from nursery to class 12 so that it could effectively compete with private institutions. He said students should receive quality education through class 12 and subsequently be provided with skills. The chief minister credited teachers for Telangana improving its ranking from the 28th to 17th in the country. He said this was made possible by their hard work. “Student enrollment in govt schools has also increased by 88,000 over the past two years,” he said, and attributed the achievement to the people of Telangana as well.
