Vadodara: Girls are set to outnumber boys once again at Maharaja Sayajirao University’s (MSU) 75th convocation, with President Droupadi Murmu scheduled to attend the ceremony as chief guest on Sep 23 during her visit to Vadodara and Padra.According to MSU’s provisional list, a total of 12,344 degrees are slated to be conferred, including 6,710 to female students and 5,634 to male students. Female students thus account for nearly 54% of the degrees listed for the convocation, continuing the trend of forming a larger share of MSU’s graduating cohort.Commerce has the highest number of degrees, with 6,672 recipients, including 3,732 females and 2,940 males. In arts, females account for 566 of the 926 degrees, while science has 523 female recipients among 913 graduates. In law, 354 females and 280 male students are set to receive degrees.The female majority is particularly pronounced in education & psychology, where they account for 305 of 408 degrees and family & community sciences, where they account for 231 of 259 degrees. Fine arts has 101 females among 170 recipients, social work has 140 among 249, pharmacy has 52 among 98, performing arts has 43 among 84, and journalism & communication has 32 females among just 40 recipients.However, some faculties continue to have a clear male majority. Technology & engineering has 779 male recipients compared with 256 women, while medicine has 394 males and 333 females. In management studies, 87 male students are listed against 42 female students.Overall, the provisional list clearly shows females outnumbering males in 11 of MSU’s 14 faculties, highlighting their strong representation across the university’s graduating cohort.MSU has invited corrections and details of eligible students whose names are missing from the provisional list. The deadline for submitting them is Sep 7, university sources said.
