Gandhinagar: The state govt has projected that by 2031, 1 lakh persons will be employed at GIFT City, the international fintech hub located in Gandhinagar. At present, 27,000 persons are employed at GIFT City.“Work is progressing at a good pace at GIFT City. At present, 27,000 persons are employed at GIFT City. And going by the pace of ongoing work, 1 lakh people will be employed there by 2031,” state chief secretary M K Das said at the launch of the Viksit Gujarat Industrial Policy 2026.Later, speaking to the media, the chief secretary reiterated that the state govt has made a projection of creating 1 lakh jobs at the international fintech city on the outskirts of Gandhinagar by 2031. He said that the new industrial policy has sops for all sectors and termed the policy “the best industrial policy he has witnessed in 36 years of service”.Speaking at the launch of the new policy, deputy CM and industries minister Harsh Sanghavi said that it should be a joint effort of the govt and industry to attract companies to invest in sunrise sectors in Gujarat. “There are several sectors where a lot of work can be done in Gujarat.”He added, “We are already late in GIFT City, but not so late that we will have to regret. But that is a possibility in the future. Why should our global capability centres (GCCs) be located outside Gujarat? Why can we not set up GCCs in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and GIFT City. Discussions are on with stakeholders and all departments are working on this issue under the direction of the CM.”
