Lucknow: Referring to fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Surya Pratap Chauhan in Ghaziabad, Yogi Adityanath said the incident happened in the guise of friendship.Without naming any community, he said such incidents were “unacceptable” and would not be tolerated. He said that parents and guardians must take responsibility for guiding their children, adding that the govt’s primary concern remained the safety and welfare of ordinary citizens. “Any parent failing to check his/her wayward child is making a mistake,” the CM said. The incident triggered massive local outrage, leading to a rapid police escalation that culminated in the encounter killing of the prime accused, Asad, on May 31. Yogi said people working against the nation must be dealt with strictly and that citizens should remain vigilant in safeguarding social harmony and national security.Emphasising the importance of peace and compassion, the CM said non-violence and compassion were ornaments of humanity. “But one must be prepared to confront evil when faced with those who threaten society,” he said, drawing references from Hindu scriptures and epics, including Lord Krishna’s message in the Bhagavad Gita and Lord Ram’s battle against evil forces. “Sajjanon ke liye hum Sajjan bane, durjanon ke liye nahi ...,” he said.Yogi said that Ram did the same thing. “Ek hhi lakshya tha … is dharti ko rakshash viheen kar denge. Kyunki ye rishi muniyon ko, samanya nagrikon ko, behanon aur betiyon ki izzat se khilwad kar rahe hain … inse ladna hoga, inse nipatna hoga … “There was a single objective: to rid this earth of demons — for they were tormenting the sages, the common citizens, and the poor, and were trifling with the honour of our sisters and daughters),” he said.
