T’puram: Technopark-based deep-tech robotics company Genrobotics has opened a new production facility in Kinfra, Menamkulam, expanding its manufacturing and research capabilities into defence, aerospace and space technologies.The Menamkulam unit will focus on research and development-led production, particularly robotics for defence and space applications. The company has recently strengthened its aerospace capabilities by inducting senior professionals with experience at Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro).The new facility is part of Genrobotics’ broader expansion of its manufacturing infrastructure in Kerala. Its largest production facility at Palakkad is nearing completion and will focus on sanitation and medical technologies.The company is also developing a headquarters-cum-R&D facility at Chanthavila in Thiruvananthapuram. Once all three facilities become operational, they are expected to add around 1 lakh sq ft of infrastructure to Genrobotics’ operations in Kerala.The expansion is aimed at strengthening Kerala’s position as the company’s principal manufacturing and innovation hub while broadening its portfolio across sanitation, industrial, medical, defence and aerospace robotics.“We began by going where no one else would: into the sewers. Today, we’re headed where few dare to dream: into space,” said Genrobotics co-founder and CEO Vimal Govind. “From sanitation to space, that’s the journey Genrobotics has been on, and this is just the beginning,” he added.The company’s move into defence and space comes amid growing efforts to build domestic capabilities in advanced manufacturing, robotics and aerospace technologies, particularly for applications where robotic intervention can reduce risks to human personnel.The facility was inaugurated by additional chief secretary (industries) APM Mohammed Hanish. KSIDC chairperson Balagopal Chandrashekar and Kinfra MD Santhosh Koshy Thomas also addressed the gathering.Genrobotics investors Manoj Agarwal, co-founder and managing partner of SeaFund, and Anil Joshi, managing partner of Unicorn India Ventures, attended the event. Genrobotics director and co-founder M K Rashid, director and COO Nikhil N P, and director and CBO Arun George were also present.
