Kargil, Sep 20: The Department of Psychology, Government Degree College (GDC) Kargil, organised a one-day academic field visit to Suru Valley, Sankoo, for students of the 1st, 3rd and 5th semesters as part of their curricular and experiential learning activities.
The field visit focused on understanding climate anxiety and psychological responses among local residents, particularly in the context of the recent flash-flood event in the Suru Valley area. The students collected qualitative information through semi-structured interviews and field observations from residents of several villages.
The field visit was supervised by Nayeema Manzoor and Mohd Mustafa, Assistant Professors, Department of Psychology. Upon reaching the field locations, the students were divided into groups of three to facilitate systematic interaction, observation and data collection.
The activity provided students with practical exposure to interviewing techniques, field observation, qualitative data collection and community interaction, while enhancing their understanding of psychological responses to environmental and disaster-related experiences.
The Department of Psychology expressed gratitude to the college administration, local residents and students for their cooperation and active participation in making the field visit successful.
