Ahmedabad: Criticism surrounds admissions to Gujarat’s state universities through the GCAS portal, with student bodies reporting that many high-scoring pupils remain without placements, while those with low grades have received confirmations. The admission cycle’s second phase has reached its seventh round. Despite multiple allocation rounds, reports indicate that higher-scoring candidates continue to face rejection. The NSUI has highlighted irregularities in the selection process. It gave the example of an ST category candidate with 74% marks, who awaits an offer letter. According to NSUI, institutions have received directives to accept any candidate presenting an offer letter, regardless of their academic performance. This practice has resulted in deserving candidates being overlooked. Many qualified candidates are now seeking admission in private institutions, the student body said.tnn
