Gaya: A three-year-old boy who fell into 300-foot-deep uncovered borewell at Raghunath Nagar village in Fatehpur block of the district on Thursday evening was rescued safely after a nearly seven-hour operation carried out jointly by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the district administration.The child, Piyush Kumar, son of Dinesh Kumar, fell into the borewell around 6.30pm while playing. Although the borewell was around 300-feet deep, the boy remained trapped at a depth of nearly 30 to 35 feet.The borewell was being sunk under the Nal Ka Jal scheme. However, it had been left uncovered.The incident triggered panic in the village, with hundreds of residents gathering at the site and praying for the child’s safe rescue. District authorities immediately launched a rescue operation under the supervision of senior officials.District magistrate Shashank Shubhankar said on Friday, “Oxygen was continuously supplied to the child through a pipe while rescue teams worked to reach him safely. Medical assistance and other emergency arrangements were also kept ready at the site.”“Specialised NDRF personnel rushed from Patna, while SDRF teams joined the operation along with local administration officials. Rescue efforts were monitored by Gaya district administration officials,” he said.“After nearly seven hours of carefully coordinated efforts, rescue personnel successfully pulled Piyush out of the borewell. He was immediately shifted to the Fatehpur Community Health Centre for medical examination and primary treatment. The child’s condition is normal now,” he added.Wazirganj SDPO Sunil Kumar said, “Following complaints received during the operation regarding negligence in leaving the borewell uncovered, an FIR will be lodged against the persons concerned. An investigation will also be conducted into the matter.”
