Chikkamagaluru: A 30-year-old coffee estate worker died after being gored by a gaur at Yamagonda Estate near Marasanige, close to Kalasa, Saturday.The deceased was identified as Chethan of Kavanhalla in Horanadu. Police said the gaur attacked him suddenly while he was at work in the estate. He sustained grievous injuries to his chest and stomach and was rushed to Kalasa community health centre.Hospital sources said multiple units of blood were arranged by local donors, but Chethan succumbed to his injuries during treatment.He is survived by his pregnant wife and a child. Kalasa police have registered a case.Anger against forest officialsLocals came down heavily on forest department officials, alleging that both the department and the state govt had failed to curb man-animal conflict in the region. While the govt announces compensation for families of the deceased, a permanent solution was needed, they opine.Koppa deputy conservator of forests Shivashankar visited the spot and assured that necessary measures would be taken.
