Margao: The North Goa district police have promulgated prohibitory orders under Section 30(2) of the Police Act, 1861, banning unlicensed assemblies, processions and public meetings within the jurisdiction of Porvorim and Panaji police stations, citing apprehensions of breach of peace during the upcoming assembly session. The order, issued by SP (North) Harishchandra Madkaikar, will come into force from Aug 31, and remain in effect till the assembly session concludes on Sep 2.Under the order, no person or group of persons will be allowed to convene or collect as an assembly, take out any procession or stage a demonstration on roads or thoroughfares, or hold a public meeting, except with prior licence from the SP’s office. Anyone intending to organise such gatherings has been directed to apply for permission well in advance.The order further states that no procession, morcha, rally or dharna will be permitted within a 500m radius of the Assembly Complex at Porvorim and the area under Panaji police station, in line with restrictions already promulgated under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023 by the district magistrate, North Goa.
