Garhwa: The police on Friday said it has registered an FIR against 84 named and 400 unidentified persons in connection with the violent protests on NH-343 a day earlier. Notably, agitators had blocked the Garhwa-Ambikapur stretch of the NH-343 for over five hours to demand compensation for the families of two men from Mahuliya village, Rahul Chaudhary (26) and Nand Lal (26), who were killed in a road accident on the night of April 15.The demonstrators reportedly pelted stones at the police personnel from Town police station when they tried to remove the blockade. In retaliation, the cops baton-charged and fired several rounds in the air to disperse the mob. Thirteen police personnel, including Sunil Kumar Tiwari, the officer-in-charge of Town police station, were injured in the stone pelting. A police vehicle was also damaged in the clash.SP Aman Kumar said, “Cases have been registered with the Town police station against 84 named and 400 unidentified people under relevant section of BNS and Prevention Damage Public Property Act. Fourteen people were sent to jail on Friday. Police have also seized 24 motor cycles from the spot through which their owners will be identified.” Twelve people were arrested on Thursday night.
