Chandigarh: The operation cell of Chandigarh Police claimed to have busted a nexus of gangsters by arresting five criminals with arms and ammunition from different parts of the city.Police also claimed to have seized five pistols and nine bullets from the accused, identified as Sanju Kancha, a resident of Sector 38 West; Anas Rayeen of Bapudham Colony, Sector 26; Balwant, a resident of Dhanas; Ranjit of Burail, Sector 45; and Subhash, a resident of Zirakpur, Mohali.During patrolling, cops arrested Sanju Kancha along with one semi-automatic pistol with one live cartridge from near Paddy Mandi, Maloya. During interrogation, he disclosed that he procured weapons from Anas Rayeen, who is in touch with Pakistani gangster Sahzaad Bhatti.As per the disclosure of Sanju Kancha, accused Anas Rayeen, the main supplier, was brought on a production warrant from Ambala jail. Anas had been nabbed along with two other accused in Ambala, with police seizing around 2kg suspected RDX explosives.During interrogation, Anas disclosed that he connected with Sahzaad Bhatti over Instagram, and he sold weapons in the Tricity through Balwant. On the basis of the disclosure statement of Anas, one country-made pistol and four live cartridges were further seized.Further acting on tip-offs, a police party chased Balwant’s car near Sector 45, Chandigarh, where the accused allegedly tried to ram police officials’ cars. However, police managed to arrest Balwant near Sector 63. The accused also tried to escape, but he fell and his ankle was sprained. Police seized one country-made pistol and two bullets from his possession. During interrogation, he disclosed that he purchased weapons from Anas and sold them to other two accused, Ranjit and Subhash, in the Tricity area. On his disclosure, police arrested both Ranjit and Subhash in the case and also seized two pistols and two bullets from them. Police said all suspects have criminal pasts, and Balwant has already been booked in nine criminal cases by the different police stations of the city.
