Panchkula: Days after arresting Mohammad Akram, an alleged active henchman of the Bambiha gang, Panchkula police have arrested Suleiman, who allegedly supplied him with weapons.Acting on a tip-off, police had earlier apprehended Akram, a resident of Islamnagar in Pinjore, and seized a .32-bore revolver along with five live cartridges from his possession. Akram, police said, has eight criminal cases registered against him, including murder, attempt to murder, assault and Arms Act violations. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to having long associations with the Bambiha gang and claimed he controlled extortion and betting rackets in Pinjore and Kalka.DCP (crime and traffic) Amrinder Singh said that during questioning, Akram disclosed that the revolver had been supplied by Suleiman. While Suleiman initially managed to evade arrest, he was apprehended on Wednesday and booked under the Arms Act.Police revealed that the seized revolver was a licensed weapon that Suleiman allegedly handed over to Akram in gross violation of firearm regulations. Investigators are now probing whether the weapon was recently used to extort traders or intimidate individuals in the area.“The focus is now on tracing the financial channels of the gang and identifying other accomplices involved in the racket,” police said, adding that further investigations are underway.
