NOIDA: The 1400 mm Ganga water line was damaged in Sector 64 late Saturday night. This led to supply shortages and no supply issues on Sunday across nearly half of Noida’s residential sectors. Some of the affected areas include Sectors 53, 31, 64, 119, and 28. Officials maintained that while repairs of the water pipeline have been undertaken, supply in the meantime is being sourced from tube wells and ranny wells.“There was a water supply failure in C Block, Sector 31 on Saturday, and today, there has been no supply of drinking water in the area. Apart from that, there is no official information available regarding this situation,” said Praveen Singh, a resident of Sector 31.Singh further added that if timely information about the situation had been given by the water department, then the residents could have filled their water tanks in advance. “Being a Sunday, generally people resort to deep cleaning of the house as well as extended laundry. But none of that could be done today,” he said. While Pushpa Sah, RWA President of Kanchanjunga Apartments, Sector 53, also apprised of experiencing a water crisis in the society complex, Kavita Jamil, Vice Chairperson of Arun Vihar Residents Welfare Association (AVRWA, comprising Sectors 28, 29, and 37), maintained that there was no water supply in Sector 28 on Sunday.A similar situation was faced in 100x sectors as well as Sectors 71, 64, etc., where the latter faced flooding of the green belt area around the damaged pipeline. “The critical issue of the damaged Ganga water line in Sector 64 has worsened the severe water crisis in 100x sectors, which we have been experiencing for months. Despite numerous assurances from the Jal Board, no substantial action has been taken yet. I urge the water department to prioritise proper power backup arrangements at the pump house and to replace outdated motors, as the old infrastructure significantly contributes to this crisis. Additionally, there should be a contingency plan in place at the pump house to mitigate emergencies in the event of Ganga water supply failures,” said Nikhil Singhal, President of Noida Highrise Federation (NHRF) 100x Sectors.Meanwhile, Prem Saini, senior manager, water department division 2, Noida Authority, apprised that water supply was affected due to a leakage in the Ganga water line and an electrical fault, and work on repairs is underway. When contacted, Ashok Verma, senior manager, water department, Noida Authority, told TOI that the 1400 mm Ganga water line was damaged in Sector 64 and repairs were undertaken from Saturday night. “We expect the repairs to be done by Sunday evening and supply to resume thereafter. Till then, we are providing water from tube wells and ranny wells. We are aware that nearly half of Noida sectors are affected and we are engaged in addressing the issue on priority,” said Verma.
