Times News NetworkKanpur: Ganga water level in Kanpur was again rising rapidly, with the level in Shuklaganj recorded at 111.53 metres at 8 am on Monday, just 1.5 metres below the warning mark of 113 metres.In view of the crowd of devotees on Sawan, barricading was put up towards Parmat Ghat and additional police force was deployed along the ghat on Monday. Warning banners were also put up on the ghat walls.In the past 24 hours, the Ganga water level rose by 56 centimetres. On Sunday, the water level was 110.97 metres, which increased to 111.53 metres by Monday morning. The irrigation department and district administration were continuously monitoring the water level.On Monday morning, 2.24 lakh cusecs of water was discharged from the Kanpur Ganga Barrage.At the same time, 1.53 lakh cusecs from Narora and 93,702 cusecs from Haridwar reached the Ganga. Despite a large quantity of water being released from the barrage, an increase in the water level was recorded.The district administration had already opened 30 gates of the Ganga Barrage. With the rise in the water level, the gauge of the gates was also being increased so that the outflow of water remained smooth.
