Bengaluru: A 26-year-old man was assaulted and robbed by a six-person scooter-borne gang near Baiyappanahalli Metro station around midnight Sunday. The victim, Dayanand BD, a resident of HRBR Layout in Kalyannagar, had returned to the city after attending a wedding in Hassan district and reached Baiyappanahalli around 12.10 am. He had asked his friend, Jeevan, to pick him up from the back gate of the metro station. While he was waiting, a gang of six, appearing to be in their 20s, on two scooters approached him. Before he could react, the gang allegedly surrounded him and assaulted him. One of the attackers held a knife to his neck and three others allegedly pinned him down and repeatedly punched him on his face. They took his silver chain, worth about Rs 5,000, a wristwatch worth around Rs 1,500, and his wallet containing his ID cards, driving licence, PAN card and four debit cards. He had only Rs 100 in cash. He offered to transfer money through a digital payment application when they asked for more money. They tried to snatch his mobile phone, but he resisted despite being outnumbered. The accused allegedly continued to assault him until he raised an alarm. They fled on their scooters after that. “My friend had already reached the back gate of the metro station and was on the other side of the road. He assumed the miscreants were fighting among themselves. After noticing me, he rushed over and called the police helpline 112. The Hoysala police reached the spot and advised me to go to the hospital for treatment as I was bleeding profusely,” said Dayanand, who filed a complaint after treatment. A case has been registered under Sections 310 (dacoity) and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Byappanahalli Police Station. Police are verifying CCTV footage from the metro station and surrounding areas to gather clues about the gang.
