The gang fled in the victim’s car but left untouched the gold chain worn by his wife

Mangaluru: A gang of seven unidentified accused allegedly robbed a gold trader of around 180g of gold ornaments and fled with the victim’s car after intercepting them in the early hours of Monday within the limits of Panambur police station.City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that the incident occurred at around 2.15am when the victims were travelling in a car from Sangli, Maharashtra, to Payannur, Kerala. The accused, who were travelling in an SUV, intercepted the victims’ vehicle and allegedly robbed a bag containing about 180g of gold ornaments belonging to the trader’s wife. The gang then drove away in the victims’ Swift car and escaped.Police said the victim, a resident of Sangli, owns a jewellery shop in the Maharashtra town. Interestingly, while the assailants took away the bag containing the gold ornaments, they did not snatch the gold chain worn by the trader’s wife. Senior police officers visited the spot and launched an investigation. Police said they have gathered some clues and formed teams to trace the accused and recover the stolen property.A case of dacoity has been registered at Surathkal police station.
