CHENNAI: A gang of five that stalked and harassed a college student, hacked her father and brother with machetes after the men confronted the group. All five were arrested.Police said Gopi, 23, son of Thirumal Murugan, 52, picked up a quarrel with Kamesh and his associates after they harassed Gopi’s sister while she was going to college and returning home.When the girl complained to her family, Gopi confronted Kamesh and the argument escalated into a physical altercation.On Thursday, when Gopi had returned from work and was parking his motorcycle, a group of armed men attacked him with machetes.On hearing his son’s cries, Thirumal Murugan rushed out to help him, but he was also attacked by the group.The assailants fled the scene before locals could come to the aid of the father-son duo.Both suffered injuries in the attack and were admitted to Kilpauk medical college (KMC) hospital for treatment. Based on a complaint lodged by Thirumal Murugan, police registered a case. Investigators traced and arrested five suspects — Kamesh, Prasanna, Devendran, Ajithkumar and Inock.
