COIMBATORE: Traffic in Coimbatore city will be regulated on Sept 16 and 18 in view of Ganesh idol immersion processions. City police said 276 idols installed by Hindu organisations and the public would be immersed on Sept 16, and the remaining idols on Sept 18.On Sept 16, two processions will take place. One will start from Dharmaraja Temple in Kuniyamuthur and move through Kuniyamuthur and Palakkad Road to Kuniyamuthur Tank.The second will start at Saradha Mill Road and pass through Sangam Street, Sundarapuram and Pollachi Road to Kurichi Tank.Heavy goods vehicles and trucks will be barred from entering the city from 8am to 10pm on Sept 16. Parking will be prohibited from 6am to 10pm in Sundarapuram, Kurichi Pirivu and on the Saradha Mill Road, Sangam Street and the roads around Kuniyamuthur Tank.Diversions include Pollachi Road to Ukkadam traffic via L&T Bypass, Eachanari Service Road, Chettipalayam Road, GD Tank, Rail Kalyana Mandapam, Podanur and Ramanathapuram. Light vehicles may use Eachanari LIC Colony Junction, Saradha Mill Road and Rail Kalyana Mandapam. Ukkadam to Pollachi traffic will be diverted via Kurichi Pirivu, Podanur Road, Rail Kalyana Mandapam, Chettipalayam Road, GD Tank and Eachanari. Ukkadam to Palakkad Road traffic will be diverted via Perur Bypass, Ashok Nagar Roundabout, Sethuma Vaikal, Puttuvikki Road, Asramam School Junction and Kovai Pudur.On Sept 18, the main procession will pass through central areas of the city to Muthannan Kulam on Sundapalayam Road. Heavy commercial vehicles and trucks will be barred from 7am to 10pm. Parking will be banned from 6am to 10pm on key roads including Raja Street, Big Bazaar Street, Variety Hall Road, Gandhi Park area, Sukrawarpet, Tyagi Kumaran Street, DB Road, Thadagam Road and Poosaripalayam Road. Diversions will be enforced for routes via Ukkadam, Perur, Trichy Road, Mettupalayam and Thadagam.Vehicles from Ukkadam towards Perur will be diverted via the Ukkadam police station roundabout, Perur Bypass, Ashok Nagar Roundabout, Selvapuram Govt Higher Secondary School junction and Shivalaya Junction. Traffic from Ukkadam towards Trichy Road will be diverted via Sungam Bypass to Sungam Junction. Vehicles heading towards Mettupalayam and Thadagam roads will be diverted through Five Corner, BB Street, Lanka Corner and the railway station towards Gandhipuram.Inbound traffic from Thadagam Road will be diverted via GCT College Junction, Bharati Park Road and Avinashilingam College to Mettupalayam Road. Vehicles entering from Mettupalayam will be diverted via Sanganoor Bridge, Kannappa Nagar, Ganapathy and Gandhipuram.Police have prescribed alternative routes for vehicles travelling via Perur, Marudhamalai, Avinashi Road and Gandhipuram to avoid the procession routes.
