Nagpur: Gadchiroli district is set to celebrate a historic moment on Maharashtra Day, May 1, when 145 Director General of Police (DG) Insignia medals and a landmark 500 C-60 Service Medals will be bestowed on police personnel who fought Left-Wing Extremism to help meet the national deadline to eliminate Maoism by March 31. Sub-divisional police officer, Bhamragarh division, Amar Mohite, who led many operations in the tottering erstwhile headquarters of Abujhmarh, is among the awardees. The C-60 Service Medal is a newly instituted honour of the Maharashtra Govt this year to recognise the extraordinary contribution of the elite C-60 commando force in the battle against Maoism. Also, several serving officers from the Nagpur police have been selected for the DG Insignia for their outstanding service. They include DCPs Niketan Kadam and Lohit Matani who are currently serving in Nagpur. Senior Inspector Mukund Kawade, police station in-charge of Beltarodi, has been recognised for his ground-level leadership.Senior inspector Subhangi Deshmukh from the Crime Branch too has been honoured for her sharp investigative skills. Senior inspector Kailash Deshmane, in-charge of Nandanvan Police Station, has earned acclaim for his operational efficiency.Senior inspector Praveen Kale of Kalamna police station is also one of the recipients. From Beltarodi police station, sub-inspector Kishor Malokar and head constable Suhas Shingne have been recognised for their consistent performance in field operations and dedication to duty. Crime branch constable Ashwin Mange too was named as the medal recipient. The awards not only highlight the Maharashtra police’s gallantry in encounter operations but also sustained service, intelligence gathering, and community-oriented policing. These medals will serve as a major morale booster for the men and women in uniform, said a senior official.
