Patna: The seven-party Grand Alliance (GA) partners in Bihar at a meeting here on Monday decided to organise a series of joint programmes against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and what they alleged was manipulation of the election process in favour of BJP and its allies, including during the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.The meeting was held at the official residence of RJD national working president Tejashwi Prasad Yadav. Addressing a news conference, Yadav outlined the decisions taken by the GA partners, including their demand for annulment of SIR and the resignation of chief election commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.“The entire campaign is pegged at organising a campaign to save democracy, which is under attack through the SIR conducted on the orders of the CEC. Since Bihar has been the birthplace of democracy in the country, the present campaign gets added significance,” Tejashwi said.He said INDIA bloc partners had earlier agreed to conduct a nationwide campaign from Oct 2 to 8. In Bihar, protest marches will be held at all 534 block headquarters on Wednesday, followed by district-level dharnas on Thursday.In Patna, MLAs, MLCs and functionaries of the seven GA partners will assemble at Martyr’s Memorial on Thursday and march to Lok Bhavan under Tejashwi’s leadership, said the GA partners.Tejashwi said the state-level protests were part of the national programme. INDIA bloc MPs from both Houses of Parliament will hold a “save democracy” march to the ECI office on Tuesday. The bloc has also sought an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu after Oct 15 to submit a memorandum outlining its concerns over what it described as an attack on democracy.Those who attended Monday’s meeting included Kapildeo Prasad Yadav (Congress), Mukesh Sahani (VIP), Ram Naresh Pandey (CPI), Dhirendra Jha (CPI-ML), Ajay Kumar (CPM) and I P Gupta (IIP), besides Alok Kumar Mehta, Kumar Sarvajeet Paswan and Ranvijay Sahu, among others.
