Kanpur: The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) department on Thursday evening raided The Cafe Pie and ordered the closure of the facility due to unhygienic conditions in the cafe’s kitchen.During an inspection of the kitchen, the team found thick layers of grime comprising dust, vegetable peels, and residues of sauce and mayonnaise accumulated in the corners of a deep freezer. Rat burrows were found at various locations within the kitchen premises.The team also found thick grease deposits on the floors and walls of the kitchen, while the staff failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the unhygienic conditions.The chef’s hygiene certificate was unavailable, and staff involved in food preparation were found working without gloves or head covers.According to Sanjay Pratap Singh, assistant commissioner (Food Safety), samples of green chilli sauce and other sauces were collected and sent for testing.He said that due to the poor hygiene conditions found in the kitchen, the establishment’s food operations had been suspended until cleanliness standards were improved.
