Technology is reshaping Indias education journey, moving from digital access to learning impact.

India’s education transformation over the last two decades has been closely linked with technology. From digital classrooms and online learning platforms to large-scale digital education ecosystems, technology has expanded access to learning opportunities across the country.

However, as India moves towards 2035, the next challenge will be ensuring that digital adoption translates into better learning outcomes, personalised experiences and improved educational effectiveness, according to the ETEducation report “India’s Education: 25 Years On, The Road to 2035”.

The report highlights that digital learning and EdTech have emerged as one of the biggest shifts in India’s education journey, moving the sector beyond traditional classroom boundaries and creating new models of learning delivery.

The digital shift in India’s education journey

For decades, expanding education access depended largely on building physical infrastructure — more schools, colleges and classrooms. Technology changed that equation by allowing educational resources, content and learning support systems to reach students and teachers beyond geographical limitations.

The growth of:

  • digital learning platforms
  • online educational resources
  • hybrid learning models
  • technology-enabled classrooms

has reshaped how education is delivered and consumed.Digital learning emerges as a major transformation milestone

The ETEducation survey of 300+ education leaders, including Deans, Directors, Principals, Professors, education industry leaders and government representatives, found that 76.2% respondents identified digital learning and EdTech as a major achievement in India’s education transformation.

The finding reflects how technology has moved from being an additional support tool to becoming an important part of the education ecosystem.

DIKSHA reflects scale of digital adoption

Government-backed digital initiatives have played a major role in expanding access to learning resources. The report highlights 182.3 million enrolments on DIKSHA, reflecting the scale at which digital learning platforms have been adopted across India’s education ecosystem.

The platform’s growth demonstrates how digital tools have supported students, teachers and institutions by providing access to educational content and learning resources.

The next challenge: Moving beyond access

While digital education has expanded rapidly, the next phase will be defined by how effectively technology improves learning.

The question is shifting from:

“Can technology make education more accessible?”

to:

“Can technology help students learn better?”

The report highlights that future digital education models will need stronger focus on:

  • quality digital content
  • teacher readiness
  • effective use of technology in classrooms
  • personalised learning approaches
  • measurable learning outcomes

Technology adoption alone will not determine the success of digital education; its impact on learning will be the key measure.

From EdTech growth to education transformation

India’s digital education journey is now entering a more mature phase. The focus is moving from creating platforms and expanding access to building learning systems that are more personalised, inclusive and outcome-driven.

As India moves towards 2035, digital learning will increasingly become a foundation for the next stage of transformation, including AI-enabled learning, adaptive education models and more personalised student experiences.

The shift is clear, India’s education journey is moving from digital access to learning impact.
