“Earlier Assam was known for tea. Now, along with tea, Assam will be globally known for semiconductor chips,” Modi said, positioning the state as a future contributor to India’s electronics and chip manufacturing ecosystem.
The visit, ahead of Assembly elections, combined infrastructure announcements with sharp political attacks on the Congress. Addressing a rally in Guwahati, the Prime Minister alleged that “Congress left Assam in a state of violence,” claiming the state remained “in the grip of bombs and blockades” for decades after Independence.
He contrasted that with what he described as a decade of accelerated infrastructure under the BJP-NDA. “In nearly seven decades, Congress built only three bridges over the Brahmaputra. In the last 10–11 years, our government has completed five major bridges,” he said, calling the river central to Assam’s development.
The bridge inauguration and the Emergency Landing Facility are part of a broader connectivity push in the Northeast, aimed at strengthening both civilian infrastructure and strategic preparedness.

Framing the narrative as a shift from instability to infrastructure-led growth, Modi said Assam’s journey from “chai to chips” reflects a broader transformation powered by what he called a “double-engine government” at the Centre and in the state.
5G Push, NIC Data Centre for Digital Assam
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the BJP government ensured that 5G connectivity reached Assam without delay, contrasting it with what he described as Congress’ failure to expand earlier telecom generations in the Northeast.
“During Congress’ time, 3G and 4G came, but Assam did not get due attention. When 5G came under the BJP government, we worked to bring it across Assam,” he said, adding that high-speed internet is benefiting youth in cities such as Guwahati.
Modi also highlighted the operationalisation of a NIC data centre in Assam, saying it would strengthen digital infrastructure and create new opportunities for the state’s youth.
AIIMS Expansion, Medical Infra Boost
Targeting the Congress over healthcare infrastructure, Modi said there were only six AIIMS in the country until 2014. “Today, the number has increased to more than 20,” he said, noting that AIIMS Guwahati was established under the BJP government.
He added that several medical colleges and cancer hospitals have been opened in Assam in recent years, strengthening the state’s healthcare network.
PM Raahat Scheme for Accident Victims
The Prime Minister also referred to the recently approved PM Raahat scheme, under which the Centre will provide free treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh to accident victims anywhere in the country.
“Immediate help after an accident saves lives,” Modi said, adding that the scheme aims to ensure timely medical assistance without financial burden on affected families.
