Nagpur: What was meant to be a day of celebration for a close friend turned into a day of irreversible tragedy for three teenagers early on Wednesday morning.Two minors lost their lives, and a third was left fighting for survival after their car rammed into a parked truck while they were taking a playful detour ahead of a birthday outing.The accident occurred around 5.30 am on the road between Pawangaon and Bharatwada Y-Point under the jurisdiction of Kalamna police station. The three friends, Mihir Behar (17), Bhaumik Larokar (16) and Sagar Melwani (17), were enjoying a joyride as their other friend, also the birthday boy, was about to reach.According to police, the three friends had set out in an electric car belonging to Mihir’s father, Anand Behar, to celebrate the birthday of their friend Jai and go for a long drive, including a highway feast. The birthday boy was still some distance away and running late, so the trio decided to pass the time by taking a short drive around the area.Mihir was at the wheel, with Bhaumik in the front passenger seat and Sagar in the rear.In the early morning hours, cops claim that the minors were driving the car at high speeds and ended up smashing into the rear of a stationary truck parked near Bharatwada Y-Point. The impact was so severe that Bhaumik and Sagar died on the spot. Mihir sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a private hospital, where he remains under treatment.Kalamna Senior Police Inspector Praveen Kale reached the scene soon after the incident. “The bodies of the two deceased were sent for post-mortem, while a case of accidental death has been registered,” he said.He added that once the post-mortem is done and the injured minor is able to give his statement, a case will be registered against Mihir as well as his father for letting a minor drive a car.The cops are also investigating how a minor came to be driving the vehicle and the exact circumstances that led to the collision.Police said further action will follow based on the outcome of the inquiry. As of now, the cops stated that the focus remains on the condition of the injured youth and ensuring a thorough probe into the circumstances of the crash that turned a birthday morning into a day of mourning.
