Ahmedabad: A group of men allegedly broke into a homeopath’s flat on Sindhu Bhavan Road and emptied it of goods worth Rs 9.6 lakh. The accused allegedly replaced the main door and later used a goods vehicle to cart away furniture, appliances, clothes and other belongings. They later called up the homeopath, claiming they took away her stuff to recover money owed by her brother.They also allegedly threatened her with harm if she did not withdraw the complaint she filed with Bopal police on Friday.The complainant identified the accused and told police that the men broke into her flat on May 23 while the family was away. The occupant had repeatedly refused their requests for entry through the housing society’s MyGate application.The accused allegedly replaced the flat’s main door after gaining entry. The society’s office-bearers were reportedly present during the incident. When they questioned one of the accused, he allegedly claimed that he was involved in a financial dispute with the homeopath’s brother.The complainant alleged that the society management later allowed the accused to access the flat after taking copies of their identity documents.According to the complaint, the men returned around 1.30am on June 7 in a black Hyundai Verna with tinted windows and a Mahindra goods vehicle. They allegedly removed most household belongings, including a refrigerator, sofa set, washing machine, 55-inch television, four air-conditioners, beds, kitchen utensils, a computer system, printer, treadmill, suitcases, and clothes.The items also included gold and silver jewellery belonging to the doctor and her mother, a silver idol, silver glasses, a passport, bank cheque books, educational certificates, hospital files and household purchase bills.The alleged theft came to light on June 9, when the family returned to find the flat’s main door replaced and locked. The doctor called the police helpline, following which Bopal police personnel accompanied her to the premises. The lock was broken to allow the family inside, and they recorded a video of the flat, which they allegedly found almost empty.The complainant said CCTV footage reviewed on June 10 showed the accused removing the belongings and loading them into the vehicles.She further alleged that the group had visited her previous residence in Vadodara on May 31. She approached Atladara police on June 1 in connection with the alleged visit.The complainant also alleged that the accused later threatened her on the phone and demanded that she withdraw the complaint, pay the amount they claimed was due or transfer the flat in their name. They allegedly threatened to harm her parents and damage her former residence in Vadodara.The theft came to light on June 9, when the family returned and found the main door replaced and locked. The doctor called the police helpline. Bopal police personnel accompanied her to the flat, and they broke the lock to allow entry. The family recorded a video of the premises, which they found stripped of belongings, the complaint stated.The complainant said CCTV footage checked on June 10 showed the men removing the goods. She also alleged that the group had visited her residence in Vadodara on May 31, prompting her to approach Atladara police on June 1 and submit an application.After she approached Bopal police, the accused allegedly threatened her on the phone, demanding that she withdraw the complaint, pay the money claimed to be owed or transfer the flat in their name. They allegedly threatened to harm her parents and said they would damage her Vadodara house as well.
