Panaji: Frequent power interruptions across the state’s industrial sector have affected major units, including MRF Limited and Mandovi River Pellets Private Limited (MRPPL), prompting the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to seek urgent intervention from state govt.In a letter to govt, GCCI said MRF and MRPPL had already raised the issue of frequent power failures with the electricity department, stating that the disruptions were affecting their manufacturing operations. The chamber said it understood the problem could be linked to a temporary gap between electricity demand and available supply and was told the situation was expected to be resolved shortly.The chamber said disruptions to such processes could lead to production losses, interruptions to process cycles, equipment damage, material wastage and significant additional costs. It said the impact was particularly serious for large industrial units such as MRF and MRPPL, which provide direct and indirect employment to thousands of people and contribute significantly to Goa’s industrial output. The units are also among the electricity department’s major consumers and revenue contributors.GCCI has asked govt to direct the electricity department to immediately examine the reasons for the frequent interruptions, take corrective and preventive measures to minimise further disruptions, assess current and projected industrial power demand, and develop a sustainable long-term solution to prevent recurring outages.The chamber said a reliable, quality and uninterrupted power supply was essential for industrial growth, investment, employment generation and the state’s overall competitiveness. It requested that concerned electricity department officers take up the matter on priority and keep GCCI informed about corrective measures and the timeline for stabilising supply.GCCI also offered to facilitate direct interaction between the affected industries and the electricity department to help arrive at an early resolution.
