Gorakhpur: In a move aimed at enhancing passenger convenience and modernising airport infrastructure, free public Wi-Fi service was inaugurated at Gorakhpur Airport on Sunday. The initiative, aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for improved aviation infrastructure, was formally launched via a virtual event from Rajkot Airport by Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu. Senior officials, including Civil Aviation secretary Sameer Sinha and Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Vipin Kumar, were present during the programme, among others. tnnDuring the event, several passenger-centric facilities were inaugurated nationwide. These included UDAN Yatri Cafes at 11 airports, Digi Yatra services at eight locations, free Wi-Fi at 50 airports, Avsar outlets at 11 airports, children’s play areas at 10 airports, food courts at 16 locations, and infrastructure upgrades at eight airports.The introduction of free Wi-Fi at Gorakhpur Airport is expected to significantly improve digital connectivity for travellers, allowing them to make productive use of their waiting time.Welcoming the initiative, Gorakhpur MP and Airport Advisory Committee chairman Ravi Kishan Shukla said the move would strengthen efforts to upgrade passenger facilities and transform the airport into a modern, digitally enabled hub.
