Hyderabad: Free heart surgeries for children will be conducted at the Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) in Hyderabad for one week from August 13 onwards, director Rahul Devaraj said on Monday.The surgeries will be performed by the department of cardiothoracic surgery, with support from London-based paediatric cardiac surgeon Dr Ramana Tannashuneni and a team of technical experts.In a statement released by NIMS, it said has been conducting the annual free heart surgery programme for the past five years. Children requiring cardiac surgery will be screened on a walk-in basis, with priority given according to medical need. Necessary diagnostic tests will be conducted before the surgery, which will be provided free of cost to eligible children.Parents can approach the CT Surgery office on the first floor of the Old Block at NIMS from Monday to Saturday between 8am and 2pm. No prior appointment is required. They should carry previous medical reports and test results, if available.
