New Delhi: Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is targeting installation of a multi-lane free-flow (MLFF) tolling system at nine toll points located on national highways by Oct-end. However, the deadline could be challenging as implementation is subject to a no objection certificate (NoC) from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).An MCD official said a joint survey with NHAI officials was conducted last week to assess the sites. “But work will begin after the NoC is received. The nine locations include DND Flyway, Rajokri, Kundli, Badarpur and Ghazipur. The contractor appointed for toll collection will bear the entire cost of installing the MLFF infrastructure, including gantries and other logistics,” the official said. There was no comment from NHAI.MCD has awarded the toll collection contract to Sahakar Global, which will collect toll at all 154 plazas and install the MLFF system. As per the tender conditions, the company is estimated to spend around ₹200 crore on the required infrastructure. The civic body expects annual revenue of about ₹964 crore from the contract.The nine toll points on national highways handle high traffic volumes, making the installation schedule tight, considering the installation of gantries and associated equipment would lead to disruption of traffic.Toll plazas such as Ghazipur on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway already pose a daily challenge. It handles a heavy flow of vehicles entering Delhi from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and witnesses congestion majority of times. In the given circumstances, completing work in one and half months would be challenging, said MCD officials.Besides, MCD has set a year-end target for rolling out MLFF technology across all 154 toll plazas under its jurisdiction.
