Krishnagiri: An earthmover and three tractors which were involved in illegal sand mining near Nagarasampatty in Krishnagiri district, were seized during the early hours of Monday.According to an officer, sand was being illegally excavated from the Nagaleri Lake under Avathuvadi panchayat around 2am on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the village administrative officer S Dinesh inspected the site and confirmed that sand was being loaded into three tractors with the help of an earthmover.“Nagarasampatty police reached the spot based on his information. However, those engaged in the illegal activity, abandoned the vehicles and fled on seeing the police approaching,” the officer said.A case has been registered, and police are investigating further to trace and arrest the absconding culprits.(Photos: S Parthiban)
