Pune: Four unidentified men allegedly thrashed a truck driver and his substitute driver in the early hours of Friday on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway near Lonavla and robbed them of cash and mobile phones collectively worth Rs20,000. The robbery took place when the duo was travelling to Bhiwandi from Kolhapur. A case of robbery has been registered with the Lonavla Rural police.An officer from the Lonavla Rural police said the duo had loaded the truck on Thursday night at Kolhapur and were on their way to Bhiwandi for delivery. When they reached Aundhe village near Lonavla on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, they stopped the truck along the expressway to check the tyre pressure. “Before the driver and his substitute could board the truck, four men carrying sharp weapons and iron rods arrived. They thrashed the duo and robbed them of cash, a silver bracelet and mobile phones, collectively worth Rs20,000,” the officer said.He said the accused threatened the victims and fled the spot. “We have registered a case of robbery. Our investigation is underway,” he added.
