Gurgaon: A 19-year-old auto driver was allegedly dragged out of his vehicle, kicked, punched and beaten up with bamboo sticks by four men in a case of road rage near Devi Lal Park.Police registered a case on Tuesday after recording the victim’s statement.The driver, Ravi Kumar, told police he was ferrying a passenger from Sector 57 to HUDA City Centre on Sunday when the assault took place. He said that after crossing the Wazirabad red light, two men on a motorcycle caught up to his auto, started abusing him and asked him to drive properly. Although he apologised, Kumar said the matter escalated further.Two other associates of the men arrived on another motorcycle and blocked his auto near Devi Lal Park.The four then pulled him out of the auto and started kicking and punching him. When he tried to escape, one of the accused picked up a bamboo stick and began hitting him with it, while the other three continued assaulting him with kicks and punches.When he started bleeding, the men panicked and fled the spot on their motorcycles.Kumar said he tried to note down the registration numbers but neither of the two motorcycles had number plates, he told police.After the assault, an onlooker called an ambulance and Kumar was taken to Civil Hospital in Sector 10. His medico-legal examination was conducted and the hospital informed police about the incident.“On Tuesday, Kumar gave his statement and a case was registered under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint) and 3(5) (act done by several persons) of the BNS based on his complaint,” an officer said. Efforts are on to identify the accused.
