Gurgaon: Four men broke into the Jal Vihar temple, Sector 46 and looted donation boxes within 10-12 minutes on Tuesday, around 1.40 am.The exact amount of cash stolen cannot be ascertained. However, the donation boxes were not opened for nearly three years as they were usually unlocked only when funds were required for construction work.The theft came to light when a neighbour heard the sound of a tempo late at night and saw the temple gate open from his balcony. He instantly informed the temple priest, following which the priest and others reached the temple and found the locks of the donation boxes broken.The priest, Hari Om, then contacted the police through the emergency helpline number 112, and a team reached the spot.The entire theft took place between 1.38 am and 1.45 am, approximately. According to the priest, four men arrived in a tempo without a number plate, two of whom got off, cut the main gate’s lock using some tool and emptied the two donation boxes of all the cash.Sukhbir Singh, SHO, Sector 50 police station, said, “An FIR is being registered, and we have collected the CCTV footage and started an investigation to identify the accused.”
