Times News NetworkKanpur: Police arrested four members of an inter-district thieves’ gang during vehicle checking late on Saturday night. Two thieves, including the gang’s kingpin Rohit, fled by taking advantage of the darkness. Police said the gang was heading in a rented Scorpio to carry out a major theft in the Panki area. The police teams are conducting raids to trace the absconders.According to police, intensive checking of suspicious vehicles was carried out on Saturday night near Ganga Barrage and Karbala Chauraha when a suspicious Scorpio was signalled to stop. Six people in the car got down and started running on seeing the police.Police said the team chased and caught two accused on the spot, while two others were caught after cordoning off the area near Karbala.

During questioning, the arrested accused were identified as Lucknow residents Sarvesh Tripathi, Santosh Vahani, Rohit Yadav alias Nepalese and Sanjeet Sahani alias Pahadi.The police said that during the investigation, it was discovered that Sarvesh Tripathi is B.Tech (Mechanical) pass and earlier worked in the loan verification department of Axis Bank in Varanasi. Police said the accused reached Kanpur to commit the crime after taking a Scorpio car on rent from a travel agency in Lucknow.
