Coimbatore: A gang of four was arrested on Saturday, for attempting to murder three youths with weapons near Kovaipudur on Friday night.Kuniyamuthur police identified the arrested as M Sanjeev, 21, S Azharuddin, 23, S Vishnu, 22, and B Manoj Kumar, 23, all from Kuniyamuthur. Two other suspects are absconding, and a hunt is on for them. Police said the gang assaulted M Karthik, 21, and M Surya, 20, of Sundakkamuthur, and S Vishva 22, of Kuniyamuthur. “Investigation revealed that Sanjeev and Vishva were at loggerheads over a love affair. Kartik had intervened to defuse the situation. Irked over it Sanjeev had roped in his gang to murder Vishva and Karthik,” said a police officer. On Friday night, when the three were walking near the Mariyamman temple in Kuniyamuthur, the gang waylaid them. Vishnu and Manoj used knives to stab Karthik and Vishva on their head and neck. When Surya intervened, he was also assaulted.Locals rushed to their help on hearing their screams, after which the gang fled. The injured were admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.Based on Karthik’s complaint, police registered a case and arrested the four. Further investigation is on.
