Navi Mumbai: In the broad daylight robbery at Sangam Gold Jewellery store in Sector 42A, Seawoods, in Dec last year, wherein three unidentified men disguised as women wearing burqas threatened the jeweller with a gun and decamped with gold ornaments that the jeweller claimed was 250 grams, valued at around Rs 25 lakh, the NRI Coastal police and the crime branch teams have in the past three months gradually arrested four accused, including two of the three men who executed the crime. The other two arrested accused are the aides who were waiting in the car outside the store and keeping a vigil. While the mastermind, who was among the three accused who executed the crime, is being traced. After robbing the jewellery store, the five men sped away in the car.A police officer privy to the case informed that, using technical expertise and tracking the escape route of the robbers, the car used in the crime was traced and seized after it was found abandoned on the Thane-Belapur Road. From the car’s registration number, the owner’s details were obtained from the RTO, and it was confirmed that the car was not stolen, but belonged to one of the accused. While one of the robbers was arrested from the Kalyan-Dombivli area, the two others were arrested from Patna, Bihar, and the fourth accused was arrested from the Navi Mumbai area.A police source informed that, from the four arrested accused, who are in jail custody, only 70 grams of gold ornaments were recovered, apart from a few one-gram gold-plated ornaments that the robbers gathered from the display shelf at the jewellery store. During interrogation in police custody remand, the four arrested accused claimed that as they were under financial crisis, the absconding accused planned the robbery at the jewellery store. The absconding accused’s residence was traced to Vithalwadi, Kalyan taluka. But he escaped with his family to his hometown in UP. Accordingly, a police team will be sent to UP to arrest him.The arrested accused revealed that they conducted a recce in the Seawoods area and targeted Sangam Jewellery store as there was no security guard deployed outside the store and also noted the timing when the jeweller used to be alone at the store.
