Jodhpur: Police Monday busted a case of cyber fraud involving the digital arrest of a 75-year-old retired professor, who was reportedly duped of Rs 1.85 crore. Four persons – identified as Mukesh Rao, Tilak Singh, Shivam Tomar and Ajay Kumar – have been arrested in this connection. Police said Kumar was a contractual employee working for the State Bank of India.Investigators said the victim received a WhatsApp call from fraudsters posing as officials of the Mumbai Crime Branch, who claimed irregularities amounting to Rs 4 crore were detected in her bank account. She was threatened with arrest and told she could avoid action only by transferring money for “verification”. tnn
