NOIDA/MEERUT: A crime branch inspector posted in Greater Noida was named in an FIR after his former wife accused him of rape, assault and forcing her to undergo an abortion. The case was registered at Kankerkhera police station in Meerut, where the woman lives.According to police, the allegations came to light after a one-and-a-half-minute-long video by the woman surfaced on social media. In the purported video, the woman narrates her ordeal and levels serious accusations against the officer posted in the IT cell of Greater Noida Zone.The FIR was registered on March 26.The complaint said that she married the accused in 2007 according to Hindu customs and traditions. She alleged that her family gave substantial dowry at the time of the wedding, soon after which she was subjected to physical and verbal abuse by her husband.The woman further alleged that the abuse continued for several years, ultimately leading to their divorce in 2022. Despite the legal separation, she claimed that the inspector assured her that they would remarry through a court marriage once his circumstances improved and she continued to remain in touch with him.According to the complaint, the officer later kept her in a flat where he assaulted her sexually. She has also accused him of forcing her to terminate a pregnancy against her will.Additionally, the woman alleged that a house provided to her by the accused shortly before their divorce was sold by him without her knowledge.The complainant also claimed that the officer believed strongly in superstition, which contributed to repeated incidents of mistreatment and abusive behaviour.Following the complaint, Meerut’s Kankerkhera police registered a case under sections 67 (sexual intercourse by a husband upon his wife during separation without her consent), 89 (causing miscarriage without the woman’s consent), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police officials confirmed that an investigation has begun and statements are being recorded as part of the probe.Officials from the Greater Noida Police said that they have not yet been formally contacted by the investigating police station but assured that full cooperation will be extended.
