Nagpur: Mayor Neeta Thakre has directed officials to organise a special felicitation ceremony on March 2 to mark the Foundation Day of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC). The event is part of the civic body’s ongoing Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.Nagpur, popularly known as Zero Mile City, will complete 75 years of its civic administration on March 2. Highlighting the significance of the occasion, Thakre said the ceremony aims to express gratitude to former mayors, deputy mayors, and other office-bearers who have contributed to the city’s development over the decades.

A preparatory meeting was held on Friday in the Mayor’s chamber to review arrangements for the event. The meeting was attended by deputy commissioner Nirbhay Jain, deputy commissioner and corporation secretary Dr Ranjana Lade, executive engineer Alpana Patne, PRO Manish Soni, sports officer Dr Piyush Ambulkar, PR department’s Amol Tapase, sports inspector Ujwala Charade and other officials.Reiterating the civic body’s motto, “Paur Jan Hitay”, Thakre said the NMC has consistently endeavoured to serve citizens and strengthen urban governance over the years. She also instructed officials to ensure that the families of deceased former office-bearers are honoured during the ceremony.Thakre directed that all necessary arrangements be completed in time to ensure the smooth conduct of the Foundation Day programme.
