CHENNAI: Former DMK minister K R Periyakaruppan has moved the Madras high court seeking to restrain TVK’s Srinivasa Sethupathi, who won from the Tiruppathur constituency by one vote, from taking oath as an MLA. A vacation bench headed by Justice L Victoria Gowri is scheduled to hear the plea in a special sitting on Sunday. In the recently concluded assembly elections, Periyakaruppan contested from the Tiruppathur constituency in Sivaganga district on behalf of DMK. His rival, TVK candidate Srinivasa Sethupathi, secured 83,365 votes and was declared elected. Periyakaruppan secured 83,364 votes and was declared defeated by a margin of one vote.While the Tamil Nadu governor has invited actor turned politician and TVK founder Vijay to form the govt on Sunday, Periyakaruppan has filed a petition seeking a recount of votes and also seeking an interim order restraining Srinivasa Sethupathi from taking oath as an MLA.The petition is listed for hearing on Sunday before a vacation bench comprising Justice L Victoria Gowri and Justice N Senthilkumar.
