Nagpur: A 42-year-old vagabond, Amol Kinnake, was dragged off the footpath, hung upside down, thrashed with a stick and videographed, Beltarodi police said on Thursday. The accused demanded Rs 3,000 and threatened to kill him if he didn’t pay. Three accused have been arrested.Amol, who was earlier detained for loitering at night, worked at a chicken centre at Somwar Bazar Chowk in Beltarodi, and slept on the footpath.On the night of October 6, Amol was asleep on the pavement near the shop when the accused, Aloke Shende and Saket Gaikwad, jolted him out of his slumber and charged him with stealing from the shop. Amol pleaded innocence, but the duo dragged him through the street and confined him in a room.Shende and Gaikwad tied a dupatta around his feet and hung him upside down and tortured him through the night. A third accused, Jaiprakash alias Thapa Dayali, shot a video of the assault.Amol somehow wriggled free of their clutches late Wednesday and lodged a police report. Beltarodi cops charged the trio with kidnapping, extortion, wrongful confinement, hurt, criminal intimidation and common intention under BNS. While Shende, who stays at the kitchen centre, has no crime record, Dayali has three cases of hurt, criminal intimidation and extortion against him. Senior inspector of Beltarodi police station, Ravindra Naikawad, confirmed the arrests.
